By now, most people have at least heard of a drone. It is sort of an ambiguous term without context, because there are all sorts of drones out there. If you ask us, drones were made most popular by the honey bee. But in more recent times, combat drones and Amazon drones have been the ones making all the headlines. In the photography/videography world, drones have become a way to get some of the most bad ass shots ever! Here in Cabarete, Oliver Dadswell of EyeFly Productions has used his to make a totally rad surf video for local pro surfer, Pedro Fernandez.
Oliver picked up his DJI Phantom 2 Drone back in February and was keen to have a reason to obsess over it. The first thing he did was add some common modifications with a stabilizing gimbal and fpv link, but then he took it a step further by adding a receiver that is integrated into a monitor. Oh and let’s not forget the GoPro Hero 3+.
After a few cervezas on the porch where Oliver and Pedro both live, they decided to employ the drone to capture the footage that woud eventually be used in “A Fly in the Sky.”
It took them 3 months of filming, from March until May, to capture all of the footage for the 5 minutes of bliss presented. What they came up with is a beautiful reel that shows off Pedro’s mad skills, the surf break of Encuentro Beach (just 5 minutes from our hotel), Dominican Republic, and Oliver’s flying and editing prowess.
We hope you enjoy the video as much as we did! If you are interested in hiring Oliver and his crazy drone for photos or videos, you can email him here.
